Game Overview

Combat Aces (Beta) is basically that Sega Genesis dogfighting game you wish existed back in the day. You jump straight into a pixelated warplane, weaving through flak bursts and trying not to get shredded by enemy aces—it’s chaotic in the best way. The controls feel surprisingly tight for a beta, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about the way missiles lock on with that classic 16-bit screech.

First mission in, I got wrecked because I kept trying to barrel roll like it was After Burner (you can’t). But once you get the hang of the top-down angles and learn to watch for tracer fire, it clicks. The soundtrack nails that crunchy Genesis FM synth sound too—like someone dug up an unreleased Aero the Acro-Bat spinoff. If you’re into retro shooters that don’t hold your hand, this one’s worth a spin before the full release.
