Play Cyberchess Online
Strategize and outsmart your opponent in Cyberchess, where you move glowing chess pieces on a digital grid to checkmate their king.
Cyberchess is one of the games included in the 0 MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a compilation that brought together several early PC titles. It was developed and published by a small team whose name isn't widely remembered today, but the game fits right into that era of experimental, low budget software that explored how traditional concepts could be reimagined on home computers.
You control the standard chess pieces, but they move across a dark screen connected by glowing, electric blue grid lines. The objective remains the same as traditional chess: checkmate your opponent's king. The signature mechanics include the stark, minimalist visual design, which replaces physical boards and pieces with wireframe models and luminous paths, and the digitized sound effects that accompany each move, like data packets being sent across a network. The pacing is deliberate, as in any game of chess, but the difficulty depends entirely on the AI opponent's skill level, which can vary. Playing it feels less like a quiet match in a parlor and more like running a tactical simulation on a futuristic command console.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
