Game Overview

Dark Chambers is basically Gauntlet for the Atari 2600, but with its own weird charm. You’re this little explorer dude creeping through 26 levels of underground mazes, grabbing treasure and trying not to get wrecked by skeletons, wizards, and—of course—the Grim Reaper himself. The enemies cycle down in strength when you shoot them, so a wizard might turn into a skeleton, then a zombie, before finally poofing out of existence. Feels oddly satisfying.

There’s all kinds of junk lying around: keys for doors, health potions (and poison that does the opposite), traps, even guns that make you shoot faster. Two-player mode’s chaotic fun, though good luck not accidentally blasting your buddy in the back. The maze layouts get trickier as you go, and finding the exit is half the battle. It’s janky in that classic Atari way, but weirdly addictive once you get into it.

Just watch out for those bombs—trust me, you’ll step on one when you least expect it.
