Dead Connection came out in 1992 as an arcade game from Taito. It was part of that wave of beat 'em ups that filled arcades back then, but it had a different flavor. Instead of fantasy or sci-fi, it went for a gritty, modern crime setting, which felt fresh next to the usual dragons and aliens.
You control a detective who has to fight his way through the city's underworld. The main goal is to smash everything in sight, from trash cans to phone booths, to find hidden items and money while beating up thugs. The signature mechanics include breaking objects for power-ups, using a grappling move to throw enemies, and navigating multi-level stages that sometimes require jumping between platforms. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be brutal, with enemies swarming from all sides. It feels chaotic and urgent, like you're barely staying ahead of the next ambush.
