Game Overview

Dismal Passages: Part I - The Wicked Curse was released as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, though details about its original developer or publisher are sparse. It fits right into that era of early PC gaming where developers experimented with dark fantasy themes and tile-based exploration, often relying on player patience and observation over hand-holding tutorials.

You control a lone adventurer navigating a grim, interconnected dungeon filled with traps, monsters, and obscure riddles. The main goal is to break a curse by gathering specific items and defeating a series of guardians. Movement is screen by screen, with combat handled through simple directional attacks and occasional use of found tools like keys or potions. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, as you backtrack through previously cleared areas to apply new knowledge or items. It feels like carefully picking a lock in the dark, where every small success matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
