Dog Fight came out in 2005 for Arcade platforms, developed by SkyWorks Interactive. It was part of that wave of mid-2000s games that tried to capture the spirit of classic arcade shooters with a bit more visual polish. You could tell it was built for quick sessions, the kind of thing you'd drop a few coins into between other games.

You pilot a small fighter plane, moving it freely around the screen to avoid enemy fire while shooting down waves of opponents. The main goal is simply to survive as long as possible, racking up points with each kill. Two mechanics stand out: the barrel roll, which gives you a brief moment of invincibility to slip through tight bullet patterns, and the ability to collect power-ups that change your weapon, like switching to spread shots or homing missiles. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and memorization of enemy attack patterns. It feels tense and immediate, like you're constantly threading a needle between safety and a quick explosion.
