Double Dragon II: The Revenge on MS-DOS is that classic side-scrolling beat 'em up where you and a buddy (or just you, if you're flying solo) punch, kick, and elbow-drop your way through waves of goons. You play as Billy Lee—or his brother Jimmy if someone grabs the second controller—out for revenge after the Black Warriors gang murders Billy’s girlfriend. Yeah, the story’s basically "they killed your girl, now break some skulls," but honestly, that’s all the motivation you need.
The controls are simple—walk right, punch bad guys, occasionally grab a pipe or knife off the ground—but the Black Warriors don’t make it easy. They’ve got new recruits since the first game, including some real cheap-shot artists who love to gang up on you. The soundtrack’s got that crunchy synth vibe, and the pixelated blood splatters when you land a good hit still feel satisfying. Just watch out for the spinning jump kicks; timing those wrong leaves you wide open.
It’s not the deepest fighter, but there’s something about the sheer chaos of two players back-to-back, clearing a screen full of enemies, that never gets old. The final showdown with Willy is brutal if you don’t save your special moves.
