Game Overview

Nintendo released Dr. Mario and Puzzle League as a 2 in 1 cartridge for the Game Boy Advance in 2005. It was a solid compilation for the system's later years, offering two distinct puzzle experiences in one portable package. This was a common approach for the GBA, bundling proven titles to extend their life without requiring entirely new development.

In Dr. Mario, you control falling vitamin capsules, rotating them to match colors with the viruses on the screen. Your objective is to clear all the viruses by creating groups of four or more matching colors. Puzzle League, originally known as Panel de Pon, has you swapping adjacent tiles on a grid to create horizontal or vertical matches of three or more, which then disappear and cause the stack to drop. The pace in Dr. Mario is more methodical, while Puzzle League can become frantic as the stack rises. Both games steadily increase in speed and complexity, demanding quick decisions and spatial planning. It feels satisfying to set off a long chain reaction and watch the screen clear.
