Dr. Mario came out on the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Nintendo R&D1. It was one of those games that felt perfectly suited to the handheld, a puzzle title you could pick up for a few minutes or lose an hour to, sitting right alongside Tetris in defining what the system could do.

You control falling vitamin capsules, rotating them to line up groups of four matching colors that erase the viruses scattered in the bottle. The main goal is to clear all the viruses before the bottle fills with pills. Key mechanics include planning several moves ahead to set up chain reactions and managing the increasing speed as you advance. The pacing starts deceptively calm but quickly becomes frantic, demanding quick decisions under pressure. It feels like a race against your own stacking mistakes, and clearing a screen at the last second brings a genuine wave of relief.
