Dragon Slayer: Eiyuu Densetsu came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Nihon Falcom. It was part of that wave of Japanese RPGs that really leaned into exploration and party building, back when the genre was still figuring out its conventions on the console. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offers a solid, traditional adventure that fits right in with its era.

You control a small group of heroes, moving screen by screen through towns, fields, and multi-level dungeons. Your main goal is to gather the scattered pieces of the Dragon Slayer, a legendary sword, by exploring, talking to villagers for clues, and fighting monsters in turn-based combat. The pacing is deliberate; you'll spend a lot of time mapping out dungeons and managing your resources between save points. It feels methodical and sometimes demanding, but there's a real sense of accomplishment when you finally clear a tough area or upgrade your gear.
