Dragon Wars came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Kemco. It was part of that wave of late NES RPGs that tried to push the hardware a little further, with more complex mechanics and a darker tone than some earlier titles. You control a party of adventurers, starting as a prisoner who must escape and eventually save the world from a dragon-led invasion. The game uses a first person perspective for exploration, moving screen by screen through towns, wilderness, and multi level dungeons. Combat is turn based, with an emphasis on positioning your party members and combining magic runes to cast spells. The pacing is deliberate, and some sections can feel grindy due to random encounters. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes demanding adventure that rewards careful planning.
