Dragon Wars came out in 1989 from Interplay Productions, one of those MS-DOS games that felt ambitious for its time. It was a party-based RPG that ran on the same engine as The Bard's Tale, so if you played those, the interface felt familiar, but the world was more open, more willing to let you wander into trouble.
You control a party of adventurers, creating them from scratch and guiding them through a world ruined by dragons. The main goal is to gather four dragon orbs to stop a prophecy from unfolding. You explore the world screen by screen, engaging in turn-based combat with swords, spells, and bows, and you spend a lot of time managing inventory and talking to NPCs whose dispositions change based on your actions. The game is not easy; it expects you to figure things out through trial and a fair amount of error. Playing it feels like slowly earning your place in a world that does not care if you survive.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
