Play Dune 2 eXtended Online

Dune 2 eXtended keeps the messy, tense RTS roots—scrounging for spice while fending off worms and enemy raids—but adds sneaky new units and less jank. Still punishingly hands-on, just with more ways to outsmart the AI.

Game Overview

Dune 2 eXtended was released in 2007 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a re-release of the original Westwood Studios title with added content and refinements. It belongs to a period when real-time strategy was still defining itself, and this version aimed to smooth some of the rough edges while preserving the core experience that players remembered from the early 90s.

You command one of three Great Houses, managing harvesters to collect spice, constructing buildings, and training units to assault enemy bases. The main goal is to destroy all opposition on each map, balancing economy and aggression under constant threat of sandworm attacks and AI raids. Signature mechanics include managing limited unit selection via point-and-click, deploying concrete to protect against worms, and using new units like the Deviator to turn enemy forces against each other. The pacing is deliberate, often tense, and the difficulty remains high, demanding careful resource management and tactical foresight. It feels like a demanding, thoughtful struggle where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
