Game Overview

Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty came out in 1992 for MS-DOS, developed by Westwood Studios. It was one of those games that felt like it belonged on the platform, sitting alongside other strategy titles that demanded a bit of patience and a lot of keyboard use. You picked one of three Great Houses, each with its own strengths, and got dropped onto the sands of Arrakis with little more than a construction yard and a dream.

You control everything from a top-down perspective, building refineries to harvest spice, training infantry and vehicles, and expanding your base while fending off attacks from rival factions. The main objective is to wipe out the enemy's structures and units, often through careful resource management and tactical assaults. Signature mechanics include harvesting spice to fund your war effort, constructing a tech tree that unlocks more powerful units, and dealing with the constant threat of sandworms that can devour your harvesters. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be punishing if you expand too slowly or mismanage your defenses. It feels tense and absorbing, especially when you're balancing economy and aggression just to survive another few minutes.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
