The combat’s real-time, sure, but you’ll still need to pause and think like a dungeon master when spells run low or someone’s bleeding out.

The pixel art nails that gloomy fantasy vibe—torch-lit corridors, creepy monsters lurking in the dark, all that good stuff. And for a 16-bit RPG, there’s a stupid amount of customization. Found a +1 sword? Great, but good luck deciding who gets it when your thief keeps getting wrecked by skeletons. The dungeons are full of little secrets, too—hidden switches, sneaky traps, the kind of stuff that makes you feel clever when you survive.

It’s not perfect (good luck figuring out some spells without a manual), but it’s one of those rare RPGs where you can almost smell the dungeon mildew. Just don’t blame me when you lose three hours to it.
