Game Overview

Earthbound: The Rat Race came out in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Ape Inc. and HAL Laboratory. It was a fan made project that took the familiar world of Earthbound and cranked up the speed, a strange and frantic experiment released during the SNES's later years when players were hungry for new twists on old favorites.

You control Ness through a condensed, hyper version of his adventure, dashing screen by screen to outmaneuver swarms of aggressive rats and other odd enemies. The main goal is simply to survive the onslaught and reach the end of each gauntlet like stage. Signature mechanics include a constantly draining health meter that forces you to keep moving, and enemies that respawn almost instantly if you linger. The pacing is brutally fast, making even basic navigation feel tense and precarious. It feels like trying to solve a puzzle while someone is shaking the table.
