Game Overview

Earthworm Jim on the Game Boy Advance came out in 2001, published by Atari. It was part of that early wave of GBA games that tried to bring console-style action to a handheld, and it stood out for its weirdness even then.

You control Jim, a worm in a robotic suit, and your goal is to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name from the evil Psy-Crow. You move through levels screen by screen, using your own head as a whip to attack enemies or swing from hooks. You also get a plasma blaster for ranged combat and occasionally pilot a rocket through shooter segments. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with instant death pits and aggressive enemies. It feels frantic and a little messy, but pulling off a tricky swing or clearing a crowded room is genuinely satisfying.
