Game Overview

Earthworm Jim came out in 1995 for MS-DOS, developed by Shiny Entertainment and published by Playmates. It was part of that wave of mid-90s PC platformers that leaned into weird, high-energy concepts, standing out with its bizarre art and offbeat humor rather than fitting any particular trend.

You control Jim, a worm in a robotic suit, navigating side-scrolling levels filled with hostile creatures and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name from the villainous Psy-Crow, which involves running, jumping, and using your head as a whip to attack. Signature mechanics include using your own body as a grappling hook to swing across gaps, and occasionally piloting a rocket through narrow, obstacle-heavy passages. The pacing is fast and often chaotic, with a difficulty that spikes unpredictably, especially during boss fights against oddball enemies like a giant goldfish in a bowl. It feels like controlling a cartoon where anything can happen, and youโ€™re never quite sure what the game will throw at you next.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
