Game Overview

Earthworm Jim came out on the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Shiny Entertainment. It was a time when platformers were everywhere, but this one stood out immediately because of its bizarre, almost nonsensical style. You weren't controlling a hedgehog or a plumber; you were an earthworm in a robotic suit, which was a pretty strange concept for the era.

You control Jim, an earthworm granted superhuman abilities by a special suit, and your main goal is to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name from the evil Psy-Crow. The gameplay involves running, jumping, and using your worm body as a whip to attack enemies or swing across gaps. You also get a plasma blaster to shoot your way through levels filled with odd enemies like psychotic crows and undead chickens. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty can be punishing, with precise platforming required in some of the more chaotic stages. It feels unpredictable and a little unhinged, but in a way that makes you want to see what absurd thing happens next.
