Game Overview

Elite Plus came out in 1991, a re-release of the original space trading and combat sim for MS-DOS, developed by David Braben and Ian Bell. It was part of that wave of games that pushed what a home computer could do, offering a sprawling, open universe on a single floppy disk. This version added VGA graphics, giving the black void of space and the wireframe ships a much-needed splash of color.

You pilot a Cobra Mk III, a versatile spacecraft, and your main goal is simply to survive and prosper. You start by trading basic goods between space stations, slowly earning enough credits to upgrade your ship's lasers, shields, and cargo hold. The core loop involves navigating between systems, managing your fuel and finances, and engaging in dogfights with pirates or police depending on your legal status. The pacing is deliberate, even slow, as you plot hyperspace jumps and wait for prices to shift. It feels like being a lone captain in a vast, indifferent cosmos where every profit and every laser blast matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
