Game Overview

England Championship Special was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games release, a collection that bundled various titles from the platform's early years. The game was developed by D&H Games and published by Alternative Software, placing it among the many football simulations that attempted to capture the sport's appeal on home computers during the late 1980s and early 1990s. It arrived at a time when developers were still experimenting with how to represent the flow of a match and the physicality of players within the constraints of the hardware.

You control a team of small, blocky players, moving them around a top-down pitch using the keyboard. The main objective is to score more goals than the opposing team within the time limit. Signature mechanics include passing the ball between players with a dedicated button and attempting shots on goal, which often result in unpredictable rebounds and deflections due to the game's simple physics. The pacing is fast, almost frantic, and the difficulty comes from the somewhat clumsy player movement and the challenge of lining up a clean strike. It feels chaotic and occasionally unfair, but there's a strange satisfaction in finally threading a pass through the defense and seeing the ball hit the net.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
