Game Overview

Fighting Cup is one of those N64 fighters that somehow flew under the radar, but it’s got this weird charm to it. You pick from a roster of fighters that range from "totally normal boxer" to "what even is this guy?"—there’s one who fights with a giant lollipop, which shouldn’t work but somehow does.

The controls take a minute to get used to—this isn’t your smooth, arcade-perfect fighter. Moves feel a little chunky, but once you land that first ridiculous combo (my personal favorite: bouncing someone off the ropes into a spinning backfist), it clicks. The multiplayer is where it shines, especially with three or four players. Chaos ensues, someone always picks the sumo guy, and suddenly you’re all yelling at the screen.

It’s not the prettiest or most polished fighter on the N64, but there’s something about its janky energy that makes it weirdly addictive. Just don’t expect to take it too seriously.
