Game Overview

Okay, so Flintstones: The Treasure of Sierra Madrock is one of those SNES games that somehow slipped under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. Which is a shame, because it’s way better than most Flintstones games. You’ve got Fred and Barney hopping across chunky, colorful levels that look straight out of the cartoon, dodging pterodactyls and chucking rocks at cavemen who really should’ve stayed in their own lane.

What surprised me was the puzzle stuff—like moving boulders to block geysers or figuring out which lever opens the treasure vault. And yeah, you can play two-player, but good luck convincing your friend to be Barney when Fred’s right there. The music’s got that goofy, bouncy Flintstones vibe, and the whole thing just feels like you’re controlling an episode of the show, complete with Fred’s dramatic pratfalls.

It’s not perfect—some jumps are weirdly floaty, and good luck reading the Japanese text if you don’t know the language—but for a licensed game? Way more fun than it had any right to be. Just don’t expect Dino to do anything useful.
