You start off picking between two totally different modes—Virtual Mode is this janky-but-fun 3D fighter where you can tweak your character’s stats like an RPG, while SD Mode is pure 2D arcade chaos with chibi-style fighters. I always ended up in SD Mode because the little guys just have more personality, throwing wild punches and kicks that feel straight out of an old-school anime.
The roster’s got everything from ninjas to sumo wrestlers, and half the fun is figuring out who clicks with your playstyle. (Pro tip: The samurai’s reach is ridiculous.)
