Play Galaxy Wars (Japan) Online

You pilot a slick spaceship through waves of neon-lit enemies, dodging lasers and asteroids while a killer synth soundtrack pumps up the chaos. Every explosion feels meaty, and the controls nail that sweet spot between tight and forgiving.

Game Overview

Galaxy Wars, released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System by publisher Irem, is a horizontal shooter that fits right in with the platform's strong lineup of space combat games. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but offers a solid, straightforward experience that feels very much of its time.

You control a single ship, moving it across the screen to blast enemy fighters and avoid their patterned attacks. The main goal is simply to survive each stage, defeating a large boss at the end of every level. Two mechanics stand out: a chargeable main weapon that grows more powerful the longer you hold the fire button, and a screen-clearing bomb you can use in tight situations. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is manageable but not without its challenging moments. It feels satisfying to weave through bullet patterns and watch your charged shots tear through larger enemies.
