Gitaroo Man Lives! came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2006, developed by iNiS and published by Koei Tecmo. It was a portable version of a cult favorite from the PS2, landing on a system that had a lot of experimental and rhythm games, but nothing quite like this one.

You control U-1, a shy kid who discovers he's the last of the Gitaroo Men, and you defend the galaxy by playing a magical guitar. The main objective is to survive each stage by matching on-screen prompts in time with the music; you use the analog stick to trace lines and hit buttons in sequence for attack and defense phases. The game is known for its sudden shifts in tempo and demanding precision, making some stages feel nearly impossible on the first try. Getting into the flow of a song and perfectly executing a long combo provides a genuine rush of accomplishment.
