Hajime no Ippo Portable: Victorious Spirits is basically the closest you'll get to feeling like you're in the anime without actually getting punched in the face. The moment you start a match, the PSP's little screen somehow makes every jab and hook feel weighty—especially when you pull off Ippo's Dempsey Roll and watch your opponent's health bar drain.

What surprised me was how well they translated the over-the-top anime style into the fights. Characters like Sendo and Miyata have their signature moves down perfectly, complete with those dramatic camera zooms mid-combo. The controls take a round or two to click (I kept accidentally clinching when I meant to dodge), but once they do, you'll be bobbing and weaving like you've got something to prove.

It's not a deep sim, but that's the point—it's all about recreating the hype of the manga's biggest fights. Even the menu music gets you pumped. Just don't blame me when you start shadowboxing in your living room after playing.
