Game Overview

Hammerlock Wrestling on SNES feels like Jaleco’s love letter to arcade-style wrestling—think Saturday Night Slam Masters but with its own weird charm. You’ve got 12 over-the-top wrestlers, each with their own ridiculous finishers (one guy literally jumps off the ropes with a flying headbutt, which shouldn’t work but somehow does). The moveset’s deep—60 moves total—but you’ll probably spam the same three or four until you figure out the timing.

Exhibition mode’s where the chaos happens, especially with four players. Tag teams dissolve into absolute madness, and someone will cheat when the ref isn’t looking. Champion League’s a round-robin grind, while Top Ranking’s just brutal—beating all 11 wrestlers in a row feels like a legit accomplishment. The split-screen close-ups during big moves are hilarious, like the game’s winking at you when someone gets suplexed into next week.

It’s janky, loud, and exactly what you’d want from a ‘90s wrestling game. Just don’t expect subtlety.
