Play Hick Town Online

You argue with locals about pig politics, trade turnips for questionable groceries, and try not to question why half the town’s obsessed with chickens. It’s gloriously dumb in the best way.

Game Overview

Hick Town was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled various small titles from the early 1990s. It was developed by a small, now obscure team, and it fits right into that era of experimental, low-budget PC games that prioritized quirky ideas over polished graphics. You won't find epic storylines or complex mechanics here; instead, it drops you into a rural setting that feels both absurd and oddly familiar.

You control a newcomer trying to settle into a bizarre countryside community. Your main goal is to earn the trust, or at least the tolerance, of the locals by completing odd jobs and navigating their peculiar social codes. Signature mechanics include bartering strange items, like trading turnips for suspicious canned goods, and engaging in dialogue trees that often revolve around animal-related disputes, particularly concerning pigs and chickens. The pacing is slow, almost meandering, and the difficulty comes more from deciphering the villagers' illogical requests than from any traditional challenge. Wandering through its handful of screens and interacting with its cast of eccentrics feels like stumbling into someone else's inside joke.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
