Game Overview

Hiryuu no Ken: Ougi no Shou is one of those NES brawlers that slipped under the radar but absolutely nails that arcade-style punchfest vibe. You start off with basic kicks and punches, but after a few minutes, you’re pulling off these exaggerated, screen-filling special moves—like a spinning dragon uppercut that sends goons flying. The controls are smoother than you’d expect for an 8-bit game, though pulling off combos still takes some practice (I definitely ate a few cheap hits before getting the timing down).

It’s got that classic late-80s aesthetic—big sprites, over-the-top animations, and enemies who love to gang up on you. Not as polished as Final Fight or Streets of Rage, but there’s something charming about its rough edges. If you’re into retro beat-em-ups and don’t mind a challenge, this one’s a fun deep cut.
