Train your dragon as Hiccup, fly through islands, complete missions, and master tricks with touch controls in this 2010 Nintendo DS adventure.
I picked up How to Train Your Dragon for the Nintendo DS back in 2010, a game published by Activision. It was one of those many movie tie-ins that came out during the DS's heyday, a time when you could find a licensed game for just about any big film. This one stood out a bit because it let you actually fly a dragon, which was a pretty neat concept for the hardware.
You play as Hiccup, and the main goal is to train your dragon through various missions and minigames. The core gameplay involves using the touch screen to perform gestures that correspond to different dragon tricks and attacks; you swipe to slash with its tail or tap to breathe fire. You explore different islands, completing objectives that often involve combat or racing against other dragons. The pacing is fairly straightforward, though some of the touch controls can be finicky until you get the hang of them. It feels satisfying when you finally sync up with your dragon and pull off a smooth combo in midair.
