Ikari III: The Rescue came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by SNK. It was part of that wave of late 80s NES games trying to bring a more intense, arcade style of play home. You control Ralf Jones, a soldier from the Ikari Warriors team, whose commander's son has been kidnapped. The mission is straightforward: get him back.
You move Ralf through side scrolling and overhead sections, using a punch, a kick, and a jump to fight off soldiers and strange creatures. Your main goal is to survive the enemy onslaught and find the boy, navigating through jungles, military bases, and caves. The game throws a lot of enemies at you from all directions, and the pacing is relentless. It feels like a constant, chaotic brawl where you're always just a few hits from a game over.
