Game Overview

Inindo: Way of the Ninja came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed and published by Koei. It was part of that early wave of SNES RPGs, a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate complex PC-style adventures to a console. The game doesn't have the flash of some later releases, but it carved out its own space with a focus on strategy and methodical planning.

You control a young ninja, the sole survivor of your clan, with the goal of building an army to take revenge on Nobunaga Oda. The game plays out across a map of feudal Japan; you explore towns to recruit allies, accept missions for gold, and delve into multi-level dungeons to find key items or rescue captured allies. Combat is turn-based and happens on a separate screen, while navigation uses a first-person perspective, moving one step at a time. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush into areas unprepared. It feels like a careful, tactical grind where every decision matters.
