Game Overview

Izuna: The Legend of the Ninja came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Ninja Studio and published by Atlus. It was part of that early DS wave where developers were still figuring out the hardware, so it doesn't lean on touch controls or dual screens in a gimmicky way. Instead, it focuses on being a solid, challenging dungeon crawler that feels right at home on a portable.

You control Izuna, a young ninja who gets cursed and has to fight through randomly generated dungeons to lift it. The game plays screen by screen, with turn based movement that gives you time to plan each step. Combat is straightforward; you use swords and bows, but your gear degrades quickly, forcing you to manage resources carefully. You collect talismans to use magic and gather materials to fuse better equipment back in town. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is steep, with permanent death sending you back to the start of a dungeon if you're not prepared. It feels tense and strategic, like every decision could be your last.
