Game Overview

Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, published by Data East. It was part of that early wave of SNES games that really leaned into colorful, cartoonish action, a step up from what the NES could do visually. You played as one of two cavemen, Joe or Mac, on a mission that felt both silly and straightforward, a common vibe for arcade-style games ported to home consoles back then.

You control either Joe or Mac, moving screen by screen through prehistoric levels, clubbing dinosaurs and other creatures with whatever weapons you can find. Your main goal is to rescue captured cavewomen from the rival tribe, the Neanderthals. The game lets you pick up and throw things like bones and fireballs, and you can even ride on the backs of certain dinosaurs for a temporary power boost. The pacing is fast and a bit unforgiving; enemies respawn quickly, and the platforming can get tricky. It feels like a frantic, cooperative brawl where you're just trying to survive the chaos together.
