Game Overview

Joe & Mac on Game Boy is like someone took a Saturday morning cartoon and stuffed it into your pocket. You pick either Joe or Mac—two cavemen who look like they bench-press boulders—and start smacking dinosaurs with a club. The sprites are tiny, sure, but the chaos is big: you’ll chuck boomerangs, ride pterodactyls, and occasionally stop to wonder why every enemy in the Stone Age has a vendetta against these two.

It’s simpler than the arcade version, but that’s not a bad thing. The controls are tight, the levels are bite-sized (perfect for bus rides), and there’s something weirdly satisfying about bonking a T-Rex on the nose. The two-player mode’s where it really shines, though—nothing bonds friends like arguing over who gets the last steak power-up while a swarm of angry cavemen closes in.

If you remember renting this from a video store or just love games that don’t take themselves seriously, it’s still a ridiculous good time. Just don’t expect deep lore—these guys are here to hit things and look good doing it.
