Game Overview

Joe & Mac came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, published by Data East. It was part of that early wave of SNES games that felt like a direct translation of the arcade experience, full of bright colors and simple, cooperative action. You and a friend could jump right in without much setup, which was perfect for a quick session after school.

You control either Joe or Mac, a caveman armed with a club, and your goal is to rescue the kidnapped cavewomen from the rival Neanderthals. You move screen by screen, clubbing enemies, jumping across platforms, and occasionally riding a pterodactyl. You can find power-ups like a boomerang or a fire wheel that change your attack, and the levels are packed with hidden fruit to collect for points. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during boss fights. It feels like a chaotic, silly cartoon brought to life.
