Kick Boy came out in 2002 for arcades, developed by Arcade Studios. It was part of that late wave of arcade games, the kind you'd find wedged between the big racing cabinets and the fighting games, usually with a sticky joystick and a hopeful quarter slot. You control a small, determined character whose only real move is to kick. You kick enemies to stun them, kick certain walls to reveal hidden passages, and even kick projectiles back at the monsters that threw them. The main goal is to clear each single-screen arena of all enemies before you can progress to the next, tougher one. Your signature moves are a rapid-fire kick combo for crowd control and a charged super kick that can clear a whole wave but leaves you vulnerable. The pacing is relentless; enemies pour in from all sides almost immediately, and the difficulty spikes hard after the first few stages.
