Game Overview
King of Fighters '97 on the Sega Saturn is still one of the best versions of SNK’s classic fighter—crisp pixel art, that crunchy Saturn sound, and all the chaotic team battles you remember. The roster’s stacked with weirdos and fan favorites, from Iori’s edgy flame slashes to Terry’s obnoxiously loud "OKAY!" when he wins.
It’s faster than earlier KOF games, but not so frantic that you’re just button-mashing (unless you pick Orochi, I guess). The AI will wreck you if you don’t learn at least a few combos, but pulling off a desperation move at the last second feels ridiculously good. Just don’t expect the loading times to be kind—this is a Saturn game, after all.
