Last Ninja 2: Back with a Vengeance came out in 1988 for MS-DOS, developed by System 3. It was part of that wave of isometric action games that felt ambitious for the time, with detailed environments and a focus on methodical movement. You control the ninja Armakuni, navigating screen by screen through castles, forests, and dungeons. Your goal is to defeat the evil shogun Kunitoki by collecting pieces of the Yoroi, a mystical armor. Combat involves timing sword strikes or throwing shurikens at guards and wildlife; one wrong move and enemies swarm you quickly. The isometric platforming feels awkward initially, but mastering the jumps between rooftops or across rivers becomes satisfying. The pacing is deliberate, almost puzzle-like in how you approach each area, and the difficulty stays high throughout.
