Play Legend of Robin Hood, The (Proto) Online
You hack through Sherwood with stiff jumps and janky sword swings, dodging guards who can't aim—then laugh when the Sheriff fight glitches halfway through. Feels like finding an old NES cart in a thrift store.

The Legend of Robin Hood, a prototype for the NES, was never officially released, but it exists as an unfinished glimpse into what might have been. It was developed by Sculptured Software, a studio known for other licensed titles, and it fits right in with the era's fondness for side-scrolling action adventures. There's no box, no manual, just a rough digital artifact from the late 80s or early 90s.
You control Robin Hood through a series of side-scrolling stages, moving screen by screen while fighting the Sheriff of Nottingham's guards with a short-range sword. Your main goal is to rescue Maid Marian, which involves navigating forests, castles, and some cramped interior spaces. The bow acts as a secondary weapon, useful for hitting enemies just out of sword reach, though aiming feels imprecise. The pacing is uneven, with sudden difficulty spikes and occasional glitches, like enemies getting stuck on scenery. Playing it feels like walking through a half-built house, where some rooms are furnished and others are just framing and dust.
