Game Overview

Luigi Adventure: Overseas Edition came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those quirky platformers that felt right at home on the SNES, a system full of experiments and spin-offs that didn't always star Mario. This one put Luigi front and center, sending him on a globetrotting rescue mission that was a bit off the beaten path.

You control Luigi, who moves with a slightly clumsy, high-jumping physics that makes every platform feel a little precarious. The goal is to rescue Mario, who has been captured and whisked away to strange locations around the world. The game is built on screen-by-screen exploration, where you'll often have to solve environmental puzzles, like using Luigi's high jump to hit switches or moving mirrors to redirect light and reveal hidden doors. Combat is simple; you mostly jump on enemies or bonk them with a hammer, but the level hazards are the real threat, from rolling sushi in Japan to bouncing off inflatable rafts in a tropical resort. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. It feels like a charming, slightly unpolished vacation gone wrong.
