Play Mario Brothers VGA Online

Two plumbers, one screen—flip turtles, dodge fireballs, and try not to knock your co-op buddy into a crab. Those VGA colors shine, but the jumps still feel stiff in that classic DOS way.

Game Overview

Mario Brothers VGA was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled several older titles for the platform. Developed by Nintendo and published by Interplay, it brought the arcade hit to home computers during the late 80s and early 90s, when DOS gaming was still heavily reliant on keyboard controls and VGA graphics. It was a straightforward port, not trying to reinvent anything, just offering a way to play a familiar game outside the arcade.

You control either Mario or Luigi, clearing each stage of enemies by hitting the platform beneath them to flip them over, then kicking them away. The main objective is to defeat all enemies onscreen before moving to the next stage, while also collecting coins that appear. Signature mechanics include the need to coordinate with a second player in co-op, avoiding enemies that respawn if left too long, and dealing with environmental hazards like fireballs and slippery ice stages. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, especially with the limited lives and continues. It feels like a test of patience and timing more than pure speed.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
