Mario's Return came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those platformers that felt right at home on the SNES, arriving when the console was well established and developers were really pushing what the hardware could do visually and mechanically.
You control Mario, running and jumping through a series of levels to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. The game is built on tight, responsive platforming, with a heavy focus on finding hidden paths and collecting large coins to unlock special stages. The pacing is brisk, but the difficulty ramps up considerably in later worlds, especially with the introduction of auto-scrolling sections and more complex enemy patterns. It feels rewarding to finally nail a tricky sequence after a few attempts.
