Maximum Carnage came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Software Creations. It was one of those licensed comic book games that felt like a direct translation of the era's darker Spider-Man stories, fitting right in with the platform's library of action-heavy side-scrollers.
You control either Spider-Man or Venom, moving screen by screen through New York City streets to stop Carnage's murderous rampage. The main objective is to fight through waves of symbiote-infected enemies and super villains using a mix of basic punches, web attacks, and character-specific special moves. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming constantly, and the difficulty is notoriously unforgiving, demanding precise timing and patience. It feels like a gritty, exhausting brawl from start to finish.
