Mega Mario World came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the early titles that really showed what the SNES could do, with bigger, more colorful levels and a smoother feel than what we were used to on the NES.

You control Mario, or Luigi if a second player joins, running and jumping through side scrolling stages to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. The game introduces the cape feather, which lets you fly after building up speed, and Yoshi, a dinosaur companion who can eat enemies and snag items with his tongue. Levels are packed with multiple exits, secret paths, and shortcuts that encourage replaying to find everything. The pacing is quick but forgiving, with plenty of checkpoints; it feels smooth and responsive, like every jump and spin is exactly under your control.
