MegaMan Star Force: Leo came out on the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Capcom. It was part of that early DS wave where developers were still figuring out how to use both screens, and this one used the top for exploration and the bottom for menus and battles. It's a sequel to the Battle Network series, but it trades net surfing for wave riding, moving the action into a world of electromagnetic waves.
You control Geo Stelar, a lonely kid who bonds with an alien to become MegaMan. You explore towns and wave roads from a third-person view, running into enemies that trigger a battle grid. Combat is turn-based; you select attack cards from a custom folder, aiming and firing while dodging enemy patterns in real time. The Leo version gives you fire-based transformations and a stronger brotherband system for co-op play. The pacing is brisk, with a good mix of story and combat, and the difficulty feels fair without being punishing. It feels like solving a puzzle while under fire, and that tension makes every battle engaging.
