Game Overview

If you've ever wanted to cram the chaos of King of Fighters into your Game Boy, this is the closest you'll get. Nettou KoF '96 somehow squeezes Kyo's flames, Iori's edgy slashes, and Terry's Power Waves into that tiny screen—and it actually works. The sprites are chunky, sure, but you'll forget about that once you start landing combos.

What surprised me was how much of the arcade feel they kept. The team battles, the desperate supers when you're down to a sliver of health, even the way Terry yells "OKAY!"—it's all here. The controls take a minute to adjust (good luck pulling off Iori's maiden masher on a D-pad), but when it clicks, it feels weirdly satisfying for a Game Boy fighter.

Best played with a friend huddled over a link cable, trading insults between rounds. Just don't blame me when your thumbs hurt afterward.
