Game Overview

Night Driver on the Atari 2600 is one of those games that feels way more intense than it looks. You're basically racing against the clock on a pitch-black road, with nothing but your headlights and the occasional checkpoint to guide you. The first time I played, I kept slamming into the sides because I misjudged the turns—those invisible barriers come out of nowhere.

There are four tracks, and the "random" one is brutal since you can't memorize the layout like the others. The other cars? They don't care about you. They'll just appear out of the dark, and if you're not quick, you'll spin out and lose all your speed. At least you can tweak the settings—turn off the honking if it gets annoying, or play with unlimited time if the 90-second limit stresses you out too much.

It's simple, but that flickering road and the constant fear of crashing make it weirdly addictive. You'll either love it or rage-quit after five minutes.
