I picked up Pirates of the Caribbean for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a time when handheld games were really hitting their stride. It was developed by Pocket Studios and published by Disney Interactive, and it felt like a solid attempt to bring that swashbuckling movie energy to a small screen. You could tell they were aiming for that classic action-adventure vibe the GBA did so well.

You play as a young sailor trying to break a curse, moving through locations screen by screen, fighting skeletons and other foes with simple but responsive sword combos. The main goal involves exploring islands, gathering clues, and hunting for pieces of a magical medallion to lift the curse. You’ll do a fair bit of platforming, solve environmental puzzles, and manage your health with limited pickups. The pacing is brisk, though some sections can feel a bit repetitive, and the difficulty spikes now and then keep you on your toes. It feels straightforward and satisfying, like a compact adventure you can finish over a weekend.
